Self Compassion Starts With You
How is the year progressing for you at the moment? Are you revisiting old stuff that you thought you’d dealt with and telling yourself off for not getting a grip? It’s so easy to fall back into the old habits and punishing self talk that you thought you’d started to shift. We can be very unforgiving when we don’t live up to our own expectations. However, at the end of the day self compassion starts with you.
Self compassion means being gentle with yourself, being aware of your self talk and catching yourself when you’re being unnecessarily harsh. Give yourself a break. You’re human and we all stuff up at times. It’s natural to set expectations for yourself or others that aren’t realistic as we want the best possible outcomes.
Are you setting the bar too high? If you were talking to a friend in your situation what would you say to them? Would you be supportive, honest and genuine? Do you speak to yourself in this way? Does your self conversation include lots of shoulds, oughts and tries? If this is the case, then you are not being kind to yourself. It takes practise and a greater self awareness to catch yourself and change how you speak to yourself.
My practical and down to earth guidance will support you in being more aware of this and better able to make realistic change. I invite you to attend one of my insightful workshops where you have the opportunity to develop new perspectives on your life and change your self talk. You’ll also learn the healing modality of Reiki to support you in sensibly maintaining these changes as you gain the skills to offer yourself a healing whenever you need one. This gives you confidence to softening your mind talk and become more accepting just as you are.
